About Andy Bracken
Had you asked him, while he attended First School in the English Midlands, what he wanted to be when he grew up, he’d have answered, “a writer.”
In 2015, he realised that ambition, and published his first novel. A decade on, and he’s published his 15th - ‘Single Minded’. He loves to write. In a recent interview with TIWN, a Welsh music and arts magazine, Bracken states, “it’s the only thing I’ve found in life that absolutely satisfies me.”
His books are very human. That’s the phrase used most frequently. Music, as you’d expect, is a vital element in the pages. But it’s not close to being what they’re about. Music is utilised as a vehicle to set mood, time and place. A loyal and passionate fanbase eagerly await each new novel, where familiar places, characters and landmarks pepper the million-plus published words he’s shared.
Again, to quote from the TIWN interview: ’Worldly Goods’ blew me away, and is still one of my favourite books of all time. How do you deal with reactions like this?
“By not taking them very seriously, to be honest. “It’s brilliant that people connect with it, and the feedback from readers is sometimes quite… It’s moving. It’s extraordinary.
“I try to write stories that I’d like to read, about things I’d like to read about.
“They’re very honest books, I think. So perhaps the reaction comes from that.”
Bracken gently ushers people new to his novels, to begin with ‘Single Minded’ and ‘Worldly Goods’
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A review of his novel, ‘The Cut’, 2021:
“Andy Bracken is the best author you don’t know yet, and he’s written a book that will be brilliant forever. The writing, characters, story and soundtrack are faultless. His technical skill draws comparisons with Alan Sillitoe.”
